“Great service!”

“Easy, very practical and always the best prices across a large set of providers. Last time the lowest price was so low that I decided to go for the second price, it was too low to be true :-). Really a great service overall!”

“Car worked great”

“The car was nice and worked well. We rented from Eurocar and it took about 45 minutes when we picked up the car. They didn't give us much help at figuring out how to get out of the parking lot and it would have been nice if they could of given us a map. They did offer us the GPS for an additional $15 per day. In the end the car worked fine and the return was very smooth.”

Bordeaux is a city with many faces. It is a seaport located at 100 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, Bordeaux is a sophisticated provincial town. Thirdly, this stylish city is a creation of the Enlightenment. Finally, the city is dedicated to the export of quality wine. Bordeaux has spacious boulevards, beautiful parks, a Grand Theatre and 18th century palaces. In short, a magnificent city.

Bordeaux has around 740,000 inhabitants, which makes it the ninth largest city in France. In addition, the population of the city is very diverse. Young and old, French and foreign.

Bordeaux is located in the south-west of France, some 100 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean. The Gironde connects Bordeaux to the ocean. The Garonne river runs through the city. Some 250 kilometers to the east of Bordeaux lies the Central Massif mountain range.

The Bordeaux economy to a large extent depends on the export of quality wine, which is cultivated and produced in the vicinity of the city. The wine is traded and exported in Bordeaux. In addition, the city depends on its seaport, which offers jobs to many people. Thirdly, tourism is also an important economic activity. In the past, Bordeaux used to be a "sleeping beauty", but in recent years the city has developed its attractive aspects. This draws a lot of tourists; today, Bordeaux is one of the most pleasant cities in France. The tourist are drawn to the city's boulevards, parks, museums, neo-classicist architecture and vibrant nightlife.

Bordeaux has one airport, called Bordeaux Airport. This airport is located in Merignac, 10 kilometers to the west of the city. The airport processes domestic flights from Air France. In addition, Ryanair operates regular flights from the United Kingdom. The Dutch low cost company Basiq Air flies from Amsterdam Schiphol to Bordeaux Airport.

Public transport

Bordeaux is one of France's most important train terminals. The train station (three kilometers from the city center) and the city center are connected to the airport. The connection is made with a Jet'Bus bus. The journey takes about 45 minutes, and is available for people who do not want to rent a car. CGFTE is the bus company operating in Bordeaux itself. Both during the day and on busy nights, there are buses available in the city. There is also a recently built tram network, which continues to be expanded, until it will connect to almost all the interesting places.

Traffic and Parking

Driving in Bordeaux is not easy, due to its usually hectic traffic. Parking is also difficult: it is hard to find a place to park and if you do manage to find one, chances are you will have to pay a lot. Some parking tips: a street to the north of Musee d'Art Contemporain and to the west of Jardin Public. There are also hotels that offer parking, at about € 6 per night. In addition, there are large parking lots to the north of Esplanade des Quinconces and opposite the Place de la Bourse.

The cheaper hotels, budget and mid-range, are very competitive and there are many of them. However, there is also a relative lack of luxurious hotels in Bordeaux. The quality in the cheaper segments may vary enormously, even within individual hotels. If you want to be sure of a good budget or luxury hotel, we certainly recommend booking in advance.
