You will here Catalan being spoken here and there, because the Spanish ruled Alghero for a while. This influence can be found, not only in the language, but also in architecture and the local cuisine. Near Alghero there are beautiful sandy beaches. They are very crowded near the city, but the further you take your rental car north, the quieter the beaches become.
The city has 45,000 inhabitants.
