Madeira Airport in a nutshell

Until recently, this airport had a very short runway, which made it a difficult place for pilots to land. With the support of the European Union, the runway was extended in 2000. The airport processes over 2 million passengers a year. It can only be reached by car and bus. There is an hourly bus service to Funchal, Machico and Caniço.

To the west of the city of Funchal, in the so-called hotel area, are the nearest hotels. The airport has a modest number of bars, restaurants and shops. On the top floor there is a restaurant that offers a great view of the airplanes. The airport has two VIP Lounges. In addition, it offers personal assistance to and from the airport. There is wireless access to the Internet in the airport building. There are two banks, an exchange offices and ATM machines. In Arrivals, there is a post office and the police station has a lost and found desk.
