Location information for La Savina
Introduction
La Savina is the town where all travelers to Formentera arrive, as it's the harbor of that Spanish island. The village itself doesn't really have any places of interest, but the island has beautiful white sandy beaches and on most beaches nudism is allowed. Formentera is also popular with divers and those snorkeling, as well as windsurfers and sailors.
Population
La Savina has only 300 inhabitants.
Location
The village is located on the north side of Formentera. Both east and west of La Savina lie lagoons, with further west Ses Salines, where salt is extracted from the sea.
Economy
Tourism is the main source of income. Some inhabitants live on fishing; grapes and citrus fruit are also cultivated on Formentera.
Airports
Formentera has no airport and can only be reached by ferry.
Public Transport
During summer months there's a bus service (usually every half hour, but some buses are cancelled) from the ferry port to several destinations on the island. Attention: check if your bus goes to your destination, as buses don't all stop at the same stops. The ferry crossing to and from Ibiza takes over half an hour (express boat) to an hour (car ferry). In summer months there's also a direct ferry connection with Denia on the Spanish mainland.
Traffic and Parking
A rental car is an ideal means of transportation to explore Formentera and discover quiet beaches. Besides the main roads there are many picturesque country roads and along the way you'll see old windmills and watchtowers.
Hotels
There are few accommodations in La Savina itself, but there's a large choice of accommodations on the entire island of Formentera. There are luxurious hotels, but also apartments, villas and cottages. In the smaller towns you'll never have trouble finding a room either, although it'll more often be a basic guesthouse.
