Location information for Dalaman

Introduction

The Turkish Dalaman is mainly known for its international airport. The town itself doesn't have much to offer to tourists, but the airport is the gateway to the many holiday hotels and resorts in the seaside resorts in southwest Turkey, including Marmaris, Fethiye, Köyceğiz, Dalyan, Ölüdeniz and Hisarönü.

Population

The town has over 16,000 inhabitants.

Location

Dalaman is located in the district of the same name in the southwest of Turkey. West of town runs a river which is, very originally, called Dalaman çayı. The river is fed by water from the ridge with high peaks north of town.

Economy

The airport plays a central role in Dalaman's local economy. There's also a large prison complex, where 'less dangerous' detainees are prepared for their return into society. The fertile grounds surrounding Dalaman produce mainly citrus fruit.

Airports

Dalaman International Airport is situated 6 kilometers south of the city center. Dalaman Airport is easily reachable by rental car. Freeway D400 which connects the tourist resorts east and west of the airport, runs north of the airport. The exit to the airport is clearly signposted.

Public Transport

From the airport Havaş shuttle buses run to Marmaris and Fethiye, stopping along the way at other holiday resorts. Dalaman has a regional bus station, from where buses leave for other destinations in the southwest of Turkey. Strangely enough, there's no bus transport between the airport and Dalaman; for this you need to rely on taxis.

Traffic and Parking

Freeway D400 connects the seaside resorts in this part of Turkey. In summer this road can be busy. You'll find a parking place almost anywhere, except in July and August when it's busy in the centers of the seaside resorts.

Hotels

This part of Turkey offers an enormous choice of holiday hotels and resorts. Dalaman even has a luxury resort, mainly for golfers, the Hilton Dalaman Golf Resort and Spa.
