Introduction

Dallas is the third-largest city in the American state Texas. The city has many faces: from the historic West End in Downtown Dallas to the glittering skyscrapers in the commerical district.

Population

In the city itself live 1,3 million people. Dallas is part of the metropolitan area Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington, where 6,5 million people live.

Location

Dallas is located in the northeast of the state Texas, on the river Trinity.

Economy

Dallas is one of the most important industrial and commercial centers in the southwest of the United States. From way back cotton trade was one of the most important pillars of the economy, but since the discovery of petroleum not far from the city that industry is by far the most important, and following that the financial provision of services. (Parts of) airplanes, agricultural machines and cars are also manufactured and there is an electrical, chemical and cement industry.

Airports

The city has two airports. The most important one is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the busiest airport of Texas. This airport is situated north of the city, about halfway the city centers of Dallas and Forth Worth. The airport is easily reachable by rental car via Interstate 35 East. The way to the airport is clearly signposted.

Dallas Love Field is situated closer to the city, at about ten kilometers from Downtown.

Public Transport

Dallas has a good, be it for foreigners somewhat confusing, public bus transportation system. The three light rail lines are easier to understand, but these don't bring you everywhere.

Traffic and Parking

Dallas is completely geared towards motorists. Once you have familiarized yourself with the city street layout, you will therefore have no problem finding your way around in a rental car in Dallas. In general, finding a parking space, in the street or in one of the parking garages, in general doesn't cause problems either.

Hotels

There's a tremendous supply of accommodations in Dallas. Do decide what you want to do in Dallas and on this basis choose in which neighbourhood you want to stay. You find a concentration of hotels in the northern part of the city, along the I-635 and the I-35 East. More luxurious hotels are mainly situated Downtown.
