The airport is located 33 kilometres to the north-west of Trieste and 110 kilometres to the east of Venice. It is the gateway to the Friuli Venezia Giulia, from which it derives its name. It is located very close to Slovenia and Croatia, to which there are bus connections.
The airport has a modern terminal and is located on the A4 motorway between Trieste and Venice.
The nearest train station is in Monfalcone (five kilometres from the airport on the Trieste-Venice railway). Every 20-25 minutes a local bus departs for this station. There are also bus connections with various other locations in the surrounding area.
There are no hotels at the airport. There are a limited number of shops and places to eat and drink. There is a reasonable shopping area, called 'La Plazetta'.
